Doing SEO on your own, the first step

If you are a small business it is hard to compete on the world wide web.  It is likely that you have put a large portion of your finances into starting and maintaining your business.  This mean that your checkbook is running low and unlike a big corporation, you simply lack the resources to hire any type of SEO services.  However, without the increased presence online, you cannot generate sales.  While you think you are in quite the pickle, here is the first step that can help boost your rankings in the search engines.

Focus on the content on your website.  You want to draw in potential clients and once they are there, give them a reason to stay.  Make small tweaks to ensure your content is fresh and lively.  Consider some of the sites that you frequently visit and ask yourself what lures you to them.  Try to translate that into your own site.  A good idea may be to integrate blogs or social media.  This means that when you make posts to your blog or social media account, the content on your website automatically refreshes.
